Antique Mix metal Japanese Shakudo Screw back Earrings

  

Old Japanese mix metal Shakudo screw -back earrings with floral leaf design. Shakudo is a traditional Japanese material, and is an alloy of gold and copper; the dark bluish-black patina is achieved by applying a compound called rokusho to the piece and then heating it and originated for use in Japanese armor and swords.

It was banned in 1876 by their government, artisans turned to jewelry and to other objects to continue this honorable and idyllic craft. These earrings are example of this work and may be original Shakudo pieces must be converted to earrings later on. Materials : mix metal Measurements : Earrings are approx 1 3/4 inches x 3/8 inches. Combine weight of both the pieces is 7 on my weighing scale. Condition : Good old condition No major flaws noted, only for some surface wear.
