Fine Antique Estate Found Meiji Era c1900 Carved Japanese Wooden Bung Mallet. This is a handsome antique estate found wooden bung mallet crafted in Japan. The long-handled sturdy mallet dates to around the turn of the century and would have been used to seal barrels. The mallet came to us from the estate of a Lieutenant Colonel in the Marine Corps who was stationed in Japan during WWII.
In overall very good condition with minor wear and loss to the finish on the wood. There are a few scattered checks and small losses to the wood. The handle is sturdy within the mallet head. This condition is consistent with age and use.Measures 19 1/2" long and the head is 8 1/8" x 2 1/4. This mallet is a wonderful relic of days gone by.
