Fine Antique Estate Found Meiji Era c1900 Carved Japanese Wooden Bung Mallet. This is a handsome antique estate found wooden bung mallet crafted in Japan. The long-handled sturdy mallet dates to around the turn of the century and would have been used to seal barrels. The mallet came to us from the estate of a Lieutenant Colonel in the Marine Corps who was stationed in Japan during WWII.In overall very good condition with minor wear and loss to the finish on the wood. There are a few scattered checks and small losses to the wood. The handle is sturdy within the mallet head. This condition is consistent with age and use.
Measures 19 1/2" long and the head is 8 1/8" x 2 1/4. This mallet is a wonderful relic of days gone by. At Nine Caroline Antiques, we love beautiful and interesting things.
