Fine Japanese Meiji Shakudo Bronze Ikebana vase with Oni and Crain

  
Fine Japanese Shakudo Bronze Ikebana vase with Oni and Crains. The vase has a wonderful oni figure standing on a cliff edge holding a rock and is about to throw it over, his garments with incised butterfly's throughout and a great mix of shakudo inlay metal copper gold bronze with engraved pine tree behind the figure. The image is recessed with silver trim and a band of silver and copper leaf's the other side with a pair of silver and copper crains under a cherry blossom tree with silver and gold leafs and flowers. The base has cresting waves the next level has silver birds flying above the waves and the next lever has band of flowers as well as the level above that one. The ikebana rim edge has inlaid silver copper vines with flowers and gourds.

A fine vase unsigned but by a top level artist, the base style with inlay seems to be by one artist or firm, Bonham's had a pair with similar bases and inlay that were gifts from the Meiji empress as well as a few others were able to find that were mostly state type presentation gifts and all are unsigned.
