EXQUISITE ANTIQUE JAPANESE HAND WOVEN BASKET. Meiji / Taisho Period (Early 1900s). Magnificent, large Japanese bamboo basket of the finest quality. Elegant form, with intricate hand woven design. Very tasteful in the traditional Japanese aesthetic. Of significant 18 inch size, makes quite a statement from across the room, whether placed in the tokonoma or on a sideboard. The artist expressed great attention to detail in the variety of weaving patterns, giving the basket a sense of serene motion.

Over the decades, the dark smoked bamboo has taken on a handsome patina, a rare wabi sabi detail that is highly sought after by collectors. All comes together in a work of great harmony. See photos for all of the splendid detail. The basket displays with a solid yet graceful presence. Measures approximately 18" high and 10" wide.

In excellent antique condition with just minor wear and the aforementioned sublime patina. Sits a bit wobbly when empty, so would benefit from a heavy insert to stabilize.
